Eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) in Zurich
Give your eyes new expressiveness with a blepharoplasty – for a fresh and youthful look. Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid lifting, is a plastic surgery procedure in which drooping eyelids are corrected. In the case of deep-set eyebrows, this procedure can be combined with a lifting of the eyebrows, a so-called direct brow lift, if necessary. This not only rejuvenates the eye area, but also alleviates the heaviness caused by the excess eyelid skin and corresponding functional complaints.
What is a blepharoplasty?
An upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure in which excess skin, fatty tissue and also muscle parts of the eyelids are removed. The main aim is to open up the eye and address functional discomfort. It is important to note that upper blepharoplasty does not treat smile lines or crow’s feet, but specifically targets the eyelids.
Benefits of blepharoplasty:
Removal of excess skin and fatty bodies that can restrict the visual field.
Improving the aesthetic appearance of the eyelids, resulting in a younger and refreshed appearance.
The blepharoplasty procedure:
Before the procedure can be performed, a thorough examination and explanation of the surgical technique as well as possible risks and complications take place in a non-binding consultation.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia or, if desired, under short anaesthesia. A precise incision is made in the upper eyelid crease to remove excess skin. The edges of the wound are then carefully sutured. Due to the placement and the skin texture in this region, the scar is hardly visible once it has matured.
After the operation, you may experience temporary swelling, bruising and slight pain. Your surgeon will give you instructions on how to care for your eyelids and may recommend avoiding certain activities for a period of time. Recovery time varies from person to person, but you can usually resume normal activities within a few weeks.
Potential risks and complications:
As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications associated with upper blepharoplasty. These include temporary incomplete eyelid closure, infection, bleeding, uneven scarring, asymmetry and dryness of the eyes. It is important that you have a thorough and individual consultation with the surgeon prior to surgery to clarify any questions you may have.
After the operation, you should rest for a few days and follow your surgeon’s instructions in order to support the healing process and achieve an optimal result.
