Sclerotherapy to remove spider veins

Sclerotherapy has proven to be the most effective method of treating spider veins.

They shimmer through the skin in a red-bluish colour and detract from the aesthetics of the legs, for example: We are talking about spider veins. These are a mild form of varicose veins. Spider veins occur when the blood in the veins becomes congested and bulges form. The blood vessels then shimmer through the skin as ramifications. As a rule, they are harmless and do not cause any discomfort. However, many people find the veins and spots annoying.

During sclerotherapy, the affected, damaged vein is punctured with a fine needle. The medication (aethoxysclerol) is then injected into the vein. This ensures that the inner layer of the small vein is specifically damaged on direct contact with the injection. This results in an inflammatory reaction in the affected vein. The body then breaks it down through repair processes. This process takes several weeks.

After treatment, the treated areas must not be exposed to the sun for 4-6 weeks. For this reason, we prefer to carry out sclerotherapy in the winter months. Several treatments are often necessary before the desired result is achieved. As this is a purely aesthetic treatment, in contrast to the treatment of deeper varicose veins, it is not covered by health insurance. If symptoms such as swollen, heavy or painful legs are present, a prior consultation with an angiologist is necessary.
