BTX injection against migraine

Effective treatment for chronic migraine
Migraine is more than just a headache – it can severely restrict quality of life and significantly impair sufferers in their everyday activities. If conventional medication does not provide sufficient relief, BTX treatment can be an effective alternative.

How does BTX work for migraines?

BTX specifically blocks the release of pain messengers at the nerve endings. Injections at specific points in the head and neck area suppress the overactive pain signals. It also relaxes the muscles, which can reduce the associated tension headaches. The result: fewer migraine days, less intense pain and a significant improvement in quality of life.

The treatment process

BTX therapy is performed on an outpatient basis and usually takes only about 15 to 30 minutes. The preparation is injected into specific muscle areas on the forehead, temples, back of the head and neck using a fine needle. The treatment is well tolerated and does not require anaesthesia.

The effect sets in after a few days and usually lasts for three to four months.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

BTX therapy is aimed at people with chronic migraine who do not respond sufficiently to conventional medication or who cannot tolerate it. Before starting treatment, a thorough examination by a neurologist should be carried out to rule out other causes and confirm the diagnosis.

Side effects and risks

BTX is very well tolerated when used properly. Occasionally, slight swelling or bruising may occur at the injection sites, but this subsides quickly. Serious side effects are rare. The treatment should only be carried out by experienced specialists.
