Neurodermatitis - Atopic eczema

Neurodermatitis or atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease with a hereditary predisposition. In most cases, it occurs in childhood and has an intermittent course. People with atopic dermatitis have a reduced skin barrier, which is why more water evaporates through the skin and the skin becomes drier. This leads to inflammation of the skin. Influencing factors include climate/weather, psychological stress and chemical stimuli (e.g. cleaning agents, personal care products).

Neurodermitis dermanence zuerich 01

The main symptoms of neurodermatitis are

  • Dry, sensitive skin
  • Itching
  • Redness and scaling (often in the elbows and hollows of the knees)
  • Rough skin with enlarged relief
Treatment of neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis cannot be cured. Consistent, daily moisturizing of the skin is the basic treatment. Suitable care products provide the skin with lipids and moisture. If the skin worsens despite basic care, anti-inflammatory therapy with cortisone-containing creams/ointments and calcineurin inhibitors is often necessary. Light therapy is also useful for severe cases. System therapies with tablets or injections are used for very severe forms.

A treatment plan must be drawn up individually for each patient. The dermatology specialists at Dermanence will be happy to take the time to do this for you.
