During sclerotherapy, the affected, damaged vein is punctured with a fine needle. The medication (Aethoxysclerol) is then injected into the vein. This ensures that the inner layer of the small vein is specifically damaged on direct contact with the injection. This results in an inflammatory reaction in the affected vein. The body then breaks it down through repair processes. This process takes several weeks.
After treatment, the treated areas must not be exposed to the sun for 4-6 weeks. For this reason, we prefer to carry out sclerotherapy in the winter months. Several treatments are often necessary before the desired result is achieved. As this is a purely aesthetic treatment, in contrast to the treatment of deeper varicose veins, it is not covered by health insurance. If symptoms such as swollen, heavy or painful legs are present, a prior consultation with an angiologist is necessary.
