Injection treatment against migraine

Migraine is more than just a headache – it can severely impair quality of life and significantly restrict everyday activities. If conventional drug therapies do not have the desired effect or are not tolerated, targeted injection treatment may be a complementary option for relief.
The treatment aims to relax specific nerve structures and muscle groups in the head and neck area. The goal is to modulate excessively active pain signals and reduce tension-related symptoms at the same time. In many cases, patients report a decrease in the number of migraine days and milder symptoms.
The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and takes about 15 to 30 minutes. The medication is injected into precisely defined muscle areas using a fine needle. No anaesthetic is required. The effect usually sets in within a few days and lasts for three to four months.
The treatment is suitable for people with chronic migraine, especially if other therapies are not sufficiently effective or are not tolerated. Before the first application, a thorough neurological examination is necessary to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes.
The treatment is generally well tolerated. Occasionally, temporary redness, swelling or small bruises may occur at the injection sites. Serious side effects are rare. The treatment is administered by appropriately qualified specialists.
