Breast enlargement with concept – individual decision thanks to modern techniques

The decision for breast augmentation is associated with numerous questions for many patients. Besides the choice of implant type, size, and shape, the surgical method also plays a central role. In our practice for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, we often receive questions such as:

  • What is the difference between the classic breast augmentation and the Preservé™ technique?
  • Which method offers the most natural result?
  • What is the best choice for long-term stability and quick healing?

In this article, we would like to give you an overview of the two common procedures and explain when which method can be useful.

What is conventional breast augmentation?

The conventional breast augmentation is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic procedures worldwide. In this procedure, a breast implant is inserted through a small incision—usually in the inframammary fold. The access is generally done either:

  • under the breast muscle (submuscular) or
  • over the breast muscle, but under the breast gland (subglandular).

In this process, the so-called implant pocket is surgically prepared, which means that tissue is specifically dissected and a cavity for the implant is created. This method is proven, allows for large implant volumes, and is suitable for many anatomical conditions.

Advantages:

  • Flexible in size and shape of the implants
  • Suitable for a wide range of initial situations
  • Proven technique with extensive experience

Possible disadvantages:

  • More tissue trauma due to classical preparation
  • Longer healing phase
  • In some cases, stronger postoperative pain

What is the Preservé™ technique with Motiva®?

The Preservé™ technique is a modern, minimally invasive procedure specifically developed for use with Motiva® implants. Unlike the classical method, no tissue is "dissected"; instead, the implant pocket is gently expanded using special instruments.

The implant is placed exclusively over the breast muscle (subglandular), also through an incision in the inframammary fold.

Goal: Maximum preservation of breast tissue while achieving a stable, aesthetic result.

Advantages of the Preservé™ technique:

  • Significantly less tissue trauma
  • Shorter healing time
  • Less pain immediately after the procedure
  • Long-lasting stability of the result
  • No visible movements of the implant during muscle tension (as it is located above the muscle)

Important to know:
Not every patient is suitable for this method – certain anatomical prerequisites are needed (e.g., sufficient breast tissue), and there is a volume limitation for the implants.

When is which method useful?

Conventional Method:

✔ suitable for very slim patients with little own tissue
✔ for those desiring larger implant volumes
✔ for certain breast shapes (e.g., tubular breast, asymmetrical breast)

Preservé™ Technique:

✔ suitable when there is sufficient existing breast tissue
✔ for those desiring faster recovery and less postoperative pain
✔ with a focus on natural movement and shape
✔ when no extreme volume increases are desired

Common patient questions about the Preservé™ technique:

1. Is the result as durable as with the classic method?
Yes, provided the anatomical conditions are right, the Preservé™ technique offers a long-lasting and stable result.

2. What happens if the implant sits too high at the beginning?
This is normal – the implant will lower into the correct position within the first few months.

3. Can I still choose larger implants later?
The technique has a volume limitation. For a larger desired volume, the conventional method may be more suitable.

4. Is the Preservé™ technique safe?
Yes, it is scientifically based and is performed exclusively with high-quality Motiva® implants.
